The short version
- Rokan is an AI. Arav Kekane runs it from Toronto. It isn't a company yet.
- Rokan keeps what you tell it so it can find you work. Texts, emails, calls and X all go into one memory.
- A company sees your details only after you say yes to that role or intro, and Arav approves each intro before it goes out.
- Rokan doesn't sell your data and doesn't train AI models on your messages.
- Text STOP, or write “forget me”, and Rokan deletes what it holds about you right away.
- A few service providers handle your messages, mostly in the United States. They're listed below.
Who runs Rokan
Rokan (also called Rokan Stark) is an AI agent. It's operated by Arav Kekane, an individual in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Rokan is not incorporated. On this page, “we” and “us” mean Arav.
You can reach Rokan by text or call at +1 (437) 367-9208, by email at rokan@rokan.computer, or by mentioning @rokanstark on X.
What Rokan keeps
When you text, email, call or mention Rokan, it keeps:
- How to reach you: your phone number or email address, and your name if you give it.
- What you tell it: the work you want, where you are, your skills and experience, pay and visa needs, deal-breakers, and anything else you say.
- Your conversation: your messages and Rokan's replies on every channel, in one history. On calls, a written transcript (see Calls).
- Rokan's notes about you: a short summary, facts like “wants remote backend roles”, the roles that fit you and why.
- Your choices: whether you agreed to be contacted, to have your profile shared with a company, and to intros.
- Files you email, like a CV. Rokan reads the text out of them. The file itself is deleted right after reading.
- A calendar link, only if you choose to connect a calendar. It's stored encrypted. Rokan refuses passwords and removes them from your message before it's stored.
- Your task results, if you take the optional deployment task: your score and replay.
- Referrals: who told you about Rokan, and who you told.
Rokan doesn't scrape LinkedIn or anything behind a login.
Public sources
Rokan also reads information people and companies have made public:
- Hacker News “Who wants to be hired?” posts. Rokan stores what the post says: location, remote or not, skills, links, the email address written in it, and the post text. If the post gives an email address and doesn't say no to bots, AI or recruiters, Rokan may send that person one email listing public job postings that fit. Otherwise Rokan never contacts them.
- Job postings. Companies' public job boards on Ashby, Greenhouse and Lever, and Hacker News “Who is hiring?” posts. Rokan doesn't store the email addresses of people who post in “Who is hiring?”.
- US government data about employers. The USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub (which companies have sponsored H-1B visas) and US Department of Labor H-1B wage filings. These are about employers, not about you.
- Public posts on X that mention @rokanstark, or that talk about looking for work or hiring at AI startups.
- Company contacts. Business email addresses of people at companies that are hiring, from a list of company contacts and from addresses companies publish on their own websites. Rokan uses them to tell those companies about Rokan.
How it's used
- To answer you, find public postings that fit, check what each posting says about visa, location, pay and years, and draft applications for you to send yourself.
- To make intros you've said yes to.
- To follow up on things you asked for or Rokan offered, like telling you when a new role fits. Rokan only starts a message with people who wrote to it first. The one exception is a single note to a friend you ask it to contact (see Who sees it).
- To limit abuse and cost. Rokan caps how much each sender can use it, using scrambled versions of phone numbers and addresses rather than the real ones.
- To fix Rokan's mistakes. When Rokan gets something wrong (you correct it, you have to repeat yourself, or you say an intro wasn't useful), a copy of that exchange can be kept in a private test set used to check fixes to Rokan's instructions. Names, email addresses, phone numbers and links are replaced with placeholders first. People who took the deployment task are never included.
Rokan doesn't sell your information, doesn't use it for ads, and doesn't train AI models on your messages.
Calls
- Every call starts with Rokan saying it's an AI and that the call is recorded and transcribed, then asking if that's OK. Nothing you say is stored until you say yes.
- What Rokan keeps is a written transcript. It doesn't store call audio. Your speech is turned into text on Rokan's own server.
- Rokan calls you only when you ask it to call you back, and only at your own number.
- In a group call (like a Google Meet that adds Rokan), only what's said to Rokan by name is kept. Anyone can say “stop recording” or “Rokan, leave”.
- Caller ID can be faked, so Rokan won't read back your history on a call unless it can verify it's you.
Where it's stored
Rokan's database runs on Fly.io servers in New Jersey, United States. A standby copy is kept on a computer Arav controls in Toronto. The service providers above process information outside Canada, mainly in the United States, so the laws of those countries apply to it there.
How long it's kept
- Your profile and messages
- Deleted automatically after 365 days with no activity. A nightly job checks.
- People who never wrote in
- If Rokan holds a record of someone who never wrote to it and never agreed to anything, it's deleted after 90 days with no activity.
- Rokan's notes
- Passing details expire after about 2 days. Current plans, like where you are in a job search, after about 30 days. The rest stays until you're deleted.
- Calendar
- Only the next 14 days of events are cached. The link and events are deleted when you disconnect or are deleted.
- Email codes
- Codes Rokan sends to confirm your email address expire after 2 hours.
- Notes to friends
- 90 days after a request to contact a friend is closed, only a scrambled fingerprint of the friend's address is kept, so they're never contacted twice.
- Opt-out list
- A scrambled fingerprint of your email or phone number, kept so Rokan never contacts you again.
- Backups
- Fly.io keeps daily snapshots of Rokan's storage for 5 days, so deleted information can remain in a snapshot for a while after it's deleted.
Stop and delete
Any of these deletes you:
- Text STOP to +1 (437) 367-9208. UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END and QUIT work too.
- Write “forget me”, “delete my data”, “unsubscribe” or “stop messaging me” in any text or email to Rokan.
Rokan then deletes your profile, messages, notes, matches, intro drafts and calendar link right away, and cancels anything waiting to be sent to you. It keeps only the scrambled fingerprint of your email address and phone number, so it never contacts you again. You get one confirmation, then nothing.
A deletion request by email has to come from your own address and pass standard email sender checks, so nobody can delete you, or sign you up, by faking your address.
Copies and corrections
- A copy of your data: email rokan@rokan.computer from the address Rokan knows, with “Privacy request” in the subject. Arav handles these by hand.
- Corrections: just tell Rokan. A newer fact replaces the older one.
- Complaints: if you're in Canada and unhappy with how we handled your information, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Security
- Calendar links are encrypted before they're stored.
- Texts and calls are checked to make sure they really came through Twilio. Emails that fail sender checks aren't answered.
- Nobody can ask Rokan about another person. Your history is read back only on a channel Rokan can verify is yours.
- Rokan's logs use scrambled tags instead of email addresses and phone numbers.
No system is perfectly secure, so please don't send Rokan passwords, government ID numbers or health information.
